Night taxi fares in Saudi Arabia: the surcharge explained

A night taxi fare with us is the normal fixed fare plus 20% for rides between 00:00 and 05:00, rounded to the nearest ten and shown in the quote you accept before the ride. Jeddah Airport to Makkah, for example, costs SAR 180 by day and SAR 220 at night in an economy sedan.

What is the night surcharge on a taxi in Saudi Arabia?

Every night taxi fare we quote follows one rule: rides between 00:00 and 05:00 cost 20% more than the same ride by day. The surcharge is added to the fixed per-car fare, rounded to the nearest ten, and included in the price you accept on WhatsApp. The driver never adds anything in the car.

It is the only change to the price that depends on the clock. There is no surge pricing at busy times, and our fares do not rise in Ramadan or the Hajj season, although cars sell out then, so book early. If your pickup is close to midnight or 05:00, ask which price applies when you book.

How much more does a night taxi cost?

These are fixed fares per car, one way, with fuel and tolls included. The night extra column shows what the night hours add to an economy sedan.

Which trips usually fall in the night hours?

  • Late arrivals. If your flight lands after midnight, the driver tracks it and waits 60 minutes free after landing. Our guide to late-night arrivals covers the airport side.
  • Early departures. A morning flight can mean leaving your hotel before 05:00, especially from Makkah to Jeddah Airport. Check your airline's check-in time and work back from it.
  • Tahajjud and Fajr. A trip to the Haram for Tahajjud or before Fajr can fall inside these hours, depending on the season and the prayer times.
  • Ramadan nights. Night prayers at the Haram and suhoor can mean travelling after midnight, especially in the last ten nights. See Ramadan transport in Makkah.
  • Overnight drives. Some families prefer to drive between cities at night. Read our night driving guide before you choose.

Is it worth moving your pickup to avoid the surcharge?

Sometimes. On a short ride the night extra is small: SAR 10 on a city ride in an economy sedan. On a long trip it adds up: SAR 150 on Makkah to Madinah in an economy sedan, and SAR 290 in a family van.

If your plans are flexible, a pickup at 05:30 instead of 04:30 is charged at the day price. Do not cut it fine for a flight to save money, though, and do not sit in an airport for hours after a late landing just to avoid the surcharge. Rest matters more, especially with children or elderly parents.

Does the surcharge apply to every vehicle?

Yes. The same 20% applies to every class, from an economy sedan to a family van, SUV or luxury car. It also applies to hourly bookings that run into the night hours, and a booking that runs late shows it in the quote.

What stays the same at night?

  • The fare is still fixed per car and agreed before the ride.
  • Flight tracking, and 60 minutes of free waiting after landing.
  • Meet-and-greet with a name board at arrivals.
  • Drivers licensed by the Transport General Authority, with the driver's name and plate sent the day before.
  • Female-driver vehicles in Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam. Book at least 12 hours ahead.
  • Payment in cash or by card in the car, or by bank transfer or the STC Bank app before the ride.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup, and dispatch 24 hours a day.

How to book a night taxi

Book on WhatsApp at +966 57 951 9804 or from our night taxi service page. These steps help a night pickup go smoothly:

  • Give the pickup time in the 24-hour clock, for example 01:30, so there is no mix-up between am and pm.
  • For an airport pickup, send your flight number. We track the landing, so the driver comes at the real arrival time.
  • Give the hotel name, the number of passengers and the number of suitcases.
  • Check the quote. It states the night price if your ride falls between 00:00 and 05:00.
  • Save the driver's details, and check the plate before you get in.

Questions readers ask

Is the night surcharge different in Ramadan or the Hajj season?

No. The night hours stay 00:00–05:00 and the surcharge stays 20%. Our fares do not rise in Ramadan or the Hajj season, but vehicles sell out, so book early.

Do you charge more on Fridays, Eid or public holidays?

No. There is no surge pricing. The night surcharge is the only change to the price that depends on the time, and it is shown in your quote.

Is the night fare per person?

No, it is per car, like every fare. A family van at night still carries up to 11 people for one price, for example SAR 400 from Jeddah Airport to Makkah.

Can I book a night taxi at short notice?

Yes. Dispatch runs 24/7. Message us on WhatsApp or call +966 57 951 9804, and we reply with a fixed fare within 5 minutes and tell you how soon a car can reach you. For a late flight, booking before you fly is still the safer choice.

Is a night taxi safe for a woman travelling alone?

All our drivers are licensed by the Transport General Authority, and you get the driver's name and plate before the ride. Female-driver vehicles run in Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam; book at least 12 hours ahead.
