How much does a return taxi cost?
A return taxi in Saudi Arabia is two trips booked together: the journey out and the journey back. With us, a return booking costs about 5% less than two one-way fares, rounded to the nearest ten. Like every fare, it is per car, fixed before you book, and includes fuel, tolls and the driver.
Here is what that means on popular routes in an economy sedan, which carries up to 3 passengers.
| Route | One way | Two one-way fares | Return | You save |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jeddah to Makkah | SAR 170 | SAR 340 | SAR 320 | SAR 20 |
| Makkah to Taif | SAR 160 | SAR 320 | SAR 300 | SAR 20 |
| Madinah to Badr | SAR 260 | SAR 520 | SAR 490 | SAR 30 |
| Riyadh to Dammam | SAR 680 | SAR 1,360 | SAR 1,290 | SAR 70 |
| Makkah to Madinah | SAR 770 | SAR 1,540 | SAR 1,460 | SAR 80 |
| Riyadh to Jeddah | SAR 1,620 | SAR 3,240 | SAR 3,080 | SAR 160 |
When does booking both ways save the most?
The discount is a percentage, so it is worth more on long routes and in bigger vehicles. On a short route such as Jeddah to Makkah it is SAR 20 in an economy sedan. On Makkah to Madinah it becomes a real sum, especially in a family van or group bus.
| Makkah to Madinah | Seats | One way | Return | You save |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economy Sedan | 1–3 | SAR 770 | SAR 1,460 | SAR 80 |
| Standard Sedan | 1–3 | SAR 900 | SAR 1,710 | SAR 90 |
| Comfort MPV | 4–6 | SAR 1,130 | SAR 2,150 | SAR 110 |
| SUV | 4–7 | SAR 1,580 | SAR 3,000 | SAR 160 |
| Family Van | 7–11 | SAR 1,440 | SAR 2,740 | SAR 140 |
| Group Bus / Coaster | 12–50 | SAR 2,930 | SAR 5,570 | SAR 290 |
Return trip or a driver by the hour?
A return booking is priced as two trips at times you set. If you want the driver to stay with you between them, wait at each stop and take you to several places, book by the hour instead.
A driver by the hour costs SAR 80 per hour in an economy sedan, with a 3-hour minimum, so a 10-hour day in the city is SAR 800. For a day out of the city with several stops, send the full plan and we quote the whole day as one fixed price. Our hourly chauffeur vs point-to-point comparison sums up when each fits.
Makkah to Taif shows the choice. A return in an economy sedan is SAR 300. If you would rather keep the driver in Taif and be driven around before the trip back, ask for a day quote.
Which trips suit a return booking?
- Jeddah to Makkah and back for Umrah from a Jeddah hotel: SAR 320 in an economy sedan or SAR 590 in a family van. Makkah is open to Muslims only.
- Madinah to Badr and back to visit the battlefield site: SAR 490 in an economy sedan. See Badr Ziyarat from Madinah.
- Makkah to Taif and back for a day in the mountains: SAR 300 in an economy sedan.
- Riyadh to Dammam and back for meetings in the Eastern Province: SAR 1,290 in an economy sedan or SAR 1,520 in a standard sedan.
How to book a return taxi
- Ask for the return fare, not two single fares, and give both pickup times.
- If you come back on a different day, give both dates and check that the quote shows the return price.
- Give the pickup address for each leg. If the way back starts somewhere else, such as another hotel, say so, so the quote covers it.
- Tell us about stops on either leg. Rest, prayer and Miqat stops on intercity trips are included.
- A leg between 00:00 and 05:00 carries the 20% night surcharge, shown in the quote.
- You receive the driver's name and plate the day before each trip. We keep the same driver for both legs where possible.
What if your plans change?
Changes to the time or vehicle are free whenever possible: message us on WhatsApp. Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. If a change affects the price, for example a larger vehicle or dropping one of the legs, we confirm the new fare with you before the ride.
Is a return taxi cheaper than the train both ways?
For one person travelling light, the train often makes sense. For a family, compare one per-car return fare with train tickets for everyone, both ways, plus a taxi at each station. Train fares and timetables change, so check the operator's website for today's prices.
The Haramain stations in Makkah and Madinah are outside the central areas, so a train trip still needs a taxi at each end. Our Makkah to Madinah taxi vs train comparison sets out the door-to-door picture.
