Dammam airport guide: the essentials
This Dammam airport guide covers King Fahd International Airport (DMM), the main airport of the Eastern Province. It serves Dammam, Al Khobar, Dhahran, Jubail and Al Ahsa, and it is the gateway for many people working with Aramco and SABIC and for travellers going on to Bahrain over the causeway.
The airport sits well outside the city: 40 km from Dammam and 59 km from Al Khobar. Build the drive into your plans, both when you land and when you fly out. If you only need Al Khobar, our post on Dammam airport to Al Khobar compares the taxi, apps, bus and rental options.

Which destinations need a gate pass?
Many Eastern Province trips end at an industrial site, a refinery or a company camp, and each has its own entry rules. Your employer or host arranges the pass; the driver cannot. Tell us the gate name when you book so the drop-off is planned.
| Destination | What to know |
|---|---|
| Jubail Industrial City | Gate passes are needed for plant entry; without one we drop at the gate |
| Ras Tanura | Refinery gate passes are required beyond the town |
| Dhahran (Aramco camp) | A gate pass is needed to drive inside; without one we drop at the main gate |
| Abqaiq | Gate passes are needed beyond some checkpoints |
| Hotels, homes and compounds | Usually door to door; give us the compound name, as some have their own gate rules |
Going on to Bahrain or the Kuwait border
Al Khobar is the jump-off point for Bahrain over the King Fahd Causeway, and the same driver can take you from the airport across the causeway if your documents allow. Read Dammam to Bahrain by the King Fahd Causeway for the documents and timing first.
North along the coast, Khafji is the Kuwait border town, 282 km, about 3 h 5 min from the airport. Our drivers stop on the Saudi side of the border.
Flying out of Dammam
Airlines set their own check-in cut-off times, so check yours first and work back. From Al Khobar the drive is about 40 min, from Jubail about 1 h 5 min and from Hofuf about 1 h 55 min; add a margin for rush-hour traffic.
Book the pickup by the day before on WhatsApp. You receive the driver's name and plate in advance, and pickups at night (00:00–05:00) show the 20% surcharge in the quote.
