How does a Dammam to Bahrain taxi work?

A Dammam to Bahrain taxi picks you up at your home, hotel or office in Dammam and drives you across the King Fahd Causeway to your address in Manama. You agree one fixed fare on WhatsApp before the day, so you know the total before you leave. The road distance from Dammam to Manama is 75 km, and the driving time is about 1 h without the border.

The causeway is about 25 km long and links the Al Khobar side of the coast with Bahrain. Passport and customs checks are on the causeway island halfway across. On most trips, that island is where the extra time goes, not the road.

What documents do you need to cross into Bahrain?

Border rules are set by each country and can change. Check Bahrain's entry rules with its official immigration and eVisa service, and Saudi exit and re-entry rules with the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) or Absher, before you book. As a rule, every passenger needs:

  • A passport valid for travel, kept in your hand luggage, not packed in the boot.
  • A visa for Bahrain where your nationality needs one. GCC citizens can usually travel with their national ID card; everyone else should check the rules for their passport.
  • Permission to come back into Saudi Arabia. Residents need a valid exit and re-entry visa before they leave the Kingdom, and visitors should check that their Saudi visa allows another entry.
  • The same documents for every child in the group.

How long does the causeway crossing take?

Allow 30 to 90 minutes at the border on top of the driving time. Queues are usually longer at weekends and on public holidays. If you are catching a flight from Bahrain, add the full border allowance to the check-in time your airline gives you. Leaving a little earlier costs far less than a missed flight.

Which vehicle should you book for Bahrain?

All fares are per car, not per person, and include fuel and the driver. The causeway toll is added at cost. We confirm the vehicle, the documents and any border fees with your quote, so the price you agree is the price you pay.

Can you drive your own car or a rental to Bahrain?

You can, but the car needs paperwork as well as the people. A vehicle crossing into Bahrain needs the owner's permission and insurance that is valid in Bahrain. If you drive a rental or a company car, get written permission from the owner first; rental companies set their own rules on cross-border trips.

Tolls and vehicle procedures are set by the King Fahd Causeway Authority, so check its current rules before you set off. With a pre-booked taxi, the vehicle side is our job. Tell us the date and the number of passengers, and we send a car that is cleared for the crossing.

Tips for an easy crossing

  • Book at least a day ahead. We send the driver's name and plate the day before.
  • Mention every passenger's nationality when you book; it helps us confirm the documents with your quote.
  • Keep passports in your hand, ready for the checks on the causeway island.
  • Rides between 00:00 and 05:00 carry a 20% night surcharge, shown in your quote before you book.
  • Plans changed? Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup.
  • Coming back the same day? Ask for a same-day return fare when you book.

Starting from Al Khobar, Riyadh or Dammam Airport

Al Khobar is the closest city to the causeway, so the trip is shorter: 52 km, about 40 min on the road, from SAR 90. From Riyadh, the drive to Manama is 469 km and takes about 4 h 50 min, from SAR 800. Our post on driving from Riyadh to Dammam covers the first part of that road.

If you land at King Fahd International Airport (DMM), book the Dammam Airport taxi to your hotel first, or ask us to quote a direct transfer to Bahrain. Our guide to Dammam Airport to Al Khobar explains the airport side.

Questions readers ask

Is the Dammam to Bahrain taxi fare per person?

No. The fare is per car, so a family pays one price. A family van carries up to 11 passengers from Dammam to Manama from SAR 240.

Where in Bahrain can the driver drop me?

Anywhere in Manama, including hotels in Seef, Juffair and the Diplomatic Area, where most visitors stay. Send the full address when you book; other parts of Bahrain are quoted on request.

Can I book the ride back to Saudi Arabia?

Yes. Ask for a return fare when you book. Return trips are discounted, and we keep the same driver for both legs where possible.

Do I pay the causeway toll myself?

No. The toll is added to your fare at cost and shown in your quote, so there is nothing to pay at the toll booth.

What is the best time to cross?

Weekdays are usually quicker than weekends and public holidays. If your timing is fixed, for example for a flight, leave early and allow the full 30 to 90 minutes for the border.
