Where do you enter Ihram for a second Umrah?
If you are already in Makkah and want a second Umrah, you go out beyond the boundary of the Haram to enter Ihram, then come back for Tawaf and Sa'i. The two places pilgrims usually use are Masjid Aisha at Al-Tan'eem, the nearest, and Masjid al-Ji'ranah to the north-east. Neither is one of the five Miqat points; they are where people already in Makkah go to enter Ihram.
Masjid Aisha takes its name from Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, who entered Ihram at Al-Tan'eem for Umrah at the time of the Farewell Hajj. Al-Ji'ranah is where the Prophet ﷺ entered Ihram for Umrah after the Battle of Hunayn.
Should you repeat Umrah? Ask a scholar
Repeating Umrah during one trip is a matter on which scholars hold different views. Some encourage it; others advise spending the time on Tawaf and prayer in the Haram instead. Scholars also discuss how often to repeat it and when Umrah may be performed on behalf of someone else, such as a parent.
We arrange the transport, not the ruling. Ask a scholar you trust about your own situation before you plan the trip. Also check in the Nusuk app whether you need a new Umrah permit and which rules apply, because these are reviewed and can change. Our Nusuk permit guide explains the app.
Tan'eem or Ji'ranah: which should you choose?
Al-Tan'eem suits a quick trip, especially late at night. Al-Ji'ranah suits families who want a calmer place to enter Ihram and do not mind the longer drive.
| Masjid Aisha (Al-Tan'eem) | Masjid al-Ji'ranah | |
|---|---|---|
| Distance from the Haram | About 7 km | About 25 km, north-east |
| Drive each way | A short city drive | About 30 minutes |
| Crowds | The busiest; quieter at night | Usually less crowded |
| Taxi, economy, one way | SAR 60 | SAR 60 |
| Family van, one way | SAR 120 | SAR 120 |
How does the taxi trip work?
- Book on WhatsApp and say which mosque you want, how many people are going and whether you want the driver to wait.
- Do ghusl at the hotel if you can. Many men put on the Ihram garments at the hotel and make the intention at the mosque.
- The driver collects you at your hotel and drives you to Al-Tan'eem or Al-Ji'ranah.
- At the mosque you pray and make your intention while the driver waits.
- The driver brings you back to the nearest open drop point near the Haram for Tawaf and Sa'i.
- You finish your Umrah by shortening or shaving the hair, as on your first Umrah.
When is the best time to go?
Pilgrims go to Masjid Aisha at all hours, and it is usually quieter at night. Al-Ji'ranah is a good morning trip. In the hot months, think about the whole Umrah, not only the drive: Tawaf and Sa'i involve a lot of walking, so many people time them for the cooler evening or night.
We run Makkah rides around the clock. A 20% night surcharge applies between 00:00 and 05:00 and is shown in your quote. Avoid setting off just before a prayer, when roads near the Haram close and your drop on the way back may be further from the mosque. Our post on drop-off points near the Haram explains how this works.
Return ride or hourly driver?
For Al-Tan'eem, many pilgrims book a ride there and back, from SAR 60 per car each way. For Al-Ji'ranah, or if your group wants to combine the trip with other stops, an hourly driver can be simpler: from SAR 80 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, or SAR 150 per hour for a family van. The driver waits at every stop.
If you plan several trips during your stay, tell us when you book and we keep the same driver where possible.
Elderly pilgrims and families
For a parent who uses a wheelchair, book a wheelchair-accessible van with a rear ramp, so they stay seated in their own chair; it takes up to four companions. Al-Ji'ranah is usually calmer than Al-Tan'eem, which helps if someone needs more time to get ready.
Remember that the second Umrah means a second Tawaf and Sa'i. If an elderly parent found the first one tiring, plan rest in between, and ask a scholar about anyone who cannot complete the rites on foot.
