A Madinah Ziyarat tour of Mount Uhud, Masjid al-Qiblatayn, the Seven Mosques and Masjid Quba fits into about 3 to 4 hours if you start after Fajr. A private car costs from SAR 80 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, or SAR 150 per hour for a family van, and the driver waits at each stop.

What does a Madinah Ziyarat tour cover?

A Madinah Ziyarat tour visits places around the city linked to the life of the Prophet ﷺ and his companions. The core sites are close together: Mount Uhud, Masjid al-Qiblatayn, the Seven Mosques and Masjid Quba are all within about 5 km of Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. That is why one morning is enough.

A private car with a driver who waits at each stop is the easiest way to do it, especially with children or elderly parents. You set the pace and leave each site when you are ready.

A suggested route for one morning

Visit times come from our Ziyarat notes and include a little time for prayer. The drives between sites are short, but traffic builds as the morning goes on.

  • After Fajr: the driver collects you at your hotel's assigned entrance.
  • Mount Uhud and the Martyrs of Uhud, about 1 hour. Go first, before the heat.
  • Masjid al-Qiblatayn, about 30 minutes.
  • The Seven Mosques at the site of the Battle of the Trench, about 30 minutes. They are close to Qiblatayn.
  • Masjid Quba, about 45 minutes. Pray two rak'ahs, having made wudu at the hotel.
  • Optional: Masjid al-Jumu'ah, about 20 minutes, between Quba and the Prophet's Mosque.
  • Back at the hotel in time to rest before Dhuhr.

Mount Uhud: why it comes first

Mount Uhud is the site of the Battle of Uhud. Hamzah, the Prophet's uncle, and the martyrs of Uhud are buried at its foot, beside the archers' hill, Jabal al-Rumah. The hill is an easy climb. Go early, because it gets hot by late morning. It is usually the first stop of a Ziyarat tour.

Masjid al-Qiblatayn and the Seven Mosques

Masjid al-Qiblatayn, the Mosque of the Two Qiblas, is where the command came to change the qiblah from Jerusalem to Makkah. Parking is close to the entrance, which helps elderly visitors.

The Seven Mosques mark the area of the Battle of the Trench, al-Khandaq, at the foot of Mount Sala. Masjid al-Fath is the best known of the group. Because the two stops sit close together, they fit naturally one after the other.

Masjid Quba: make wudu before you leave

Masjid Quba is the first mosque built in Islam. According to the hadith, praying two rak'ahs there after making wudu at home carries the reward of an Umrah, so make wudu at your hotel before the tour.

Saturday morning is the Sunnah time to visit, and also the busiest. If you would rather walk one way, a walkway links Quba to the Prophet's Mosque.

Can you add more stops?

Yes, if you have time. Masjid al-Ghamamah, where the Prophet ﷺ prayed the Eid prayer and the prayer for rain, is a short walk from Al-Masjid an-Nabawi. Jannat al-Baqi, beside the mosque, opens for men after Fajr and Asr, though times can change.

For a longer day, the King Fahd Quran Printing Complex offers guided visits with limited hours, which we confirm before your trip. Wadi al-Baida, known as Wadi al-Jinn, is about 40 minutes each way and works best as a separate half-day trip. The Badr battlefield is about 150 km away, a half-day trip on its own.

Booking tips for a Madinah Ziyarat tour

  • Book the evening before and agree the pickup time; just after Fajr works best for Uhud.
  • Book by the hour: from SAR 80 per hour for a sedan, SAR 120 for a comfort MPV or SAR 150 for a family van, with a 3-hour minimum.
  • For a wheelchair user, book a wheelchair-accessible van, from SAR 170 per hour.
  • Ask for an English, Urdu or Arabic speaking driver.
  • Plan around your Rawdah appointment, which you book through the Nusuk app.
  • Carry water and wear shoes you can slip off quickly at each mosque.

Questions readers ask

Is Saturday the best day to visit Masjid Quba?

Saturday morning is the Sunnah time to visit, so it is also the busiest. If you want a quieter visit, go on another morning.

Can women visit all the stops?

Women can visit the mosques on the tour. Jannat al-Baqi opens for men at set times, and the rules can change, so check on the day.

Can we do the tour in the afternoon?

Yes, but Uhud gets hot from late morning in the warmer months. If you go after Asr, start with the mosques and finish at Uhud as the heat drops.

Is a private tour better than a group bus tour?

A group bus costs less per person but follows a fixed route. A private car lets you start when you want and spend as long as you like at each site, which suits families and elderly travellers.

Do the drivers explain the sites?

Yes. Our Ziyarat drivers explain each site as you go. Ask for an English, Urdu or Arabic speaking driver when you book.
