How does a Saudi to Kuwait taxi work?

A Saudi to Kuwait taxi picks you up at your home, hotel or office in Saudi Arabia and drives you across the land border to Kuwait City. Drop-offs are possible at hotels, homes and Kuwait International Airport. You agree one fixed fare on WhatsApp before the day.

Passengers need valid entry documents for Kuwait. We confirm the vehicle, the documents and any border fees with your quote, so you know the full price before you leave.

Which border crossing will you use?

There are two crossings on the Saudi–Kuwait land border. The coastal road crosses at Al Khafji, and the inland road crosses at Al Ruq'i near Hafar Al Batin. Which one your driver uses depends on where you start.

  • From Dammam and the Gulf coast: the coastal road north to Khafji, the Saudi town on the Kuwait border. Dammam to Khafji alone is 290 km on Route 95.
  • From Riyadh: the road passes near Khafji, so you also cross on the coast.
  • From Hafar Al Batin: the inland crossing at Al Ruq'i, near the city.

Routes, times and fares to Kuwait City

Driving times do not include the border. Fares are per car and include fuel and the driver; rides between 00:00 and 05:00 carry a 20% night surcharge, shown in your quote.

What documents do you need to enter Kuwait?

Border rules are set by each country and can change. Check Kuwait's entry and visa rules with the Kuwait Ministry of Interior, and Saudi exit and re-entry rules with the General Directorate of Passports (Jawazat) or Absher, before you book. As a rule, plan for:

  • A valid passport for every passenger, including children, kept in your hand luggage.
  • A visa or entry permission for Kuwait where your nationality needs one. GCC citizens can usually travel with their national ID card; everyone else should check the rules for their passport.
  • Permission to come back into Saudi Arabia. Residents need a valid exit and re-entry visa before they leave, and visitors should check whether their Saudi visa allows another entry.
  • Customs rules in both countries for anything you carry, so check what you may bring before you pack.

What about the car itself?

A vehicle crossing a border needs its own papers as well as the passengers. As a rule, that means the owner's permission to take the car abroad and insurance that is valid in Kuwait. The exact requirements are set by the authorities on both sides, so check them with the official sources and the vehicle's insurer before you drive your own car or a rental across. Rental companies set their own rules on cross-border trips.

With a pre-booked taxi, the vehicle side is our job. We confirm the vehicle and any border fees with your quote, so there is nothing for you to arrange for the car.

How long does the border take?

Allow 30 to 90 minutes at the border on top of the driving time, and longer at weekends and on public holidays. Keep passports in your hand, not packed in the boot.

If you are flying from Kuwait International Airport, add the full border allowance to the check-in time your airline gives you. Leaving early costs much less than a missed flight.

Long trips: from Riyadh, and with families

From Riyadh, Kuwait City is 716 km, about 8 h 5 min of driving before the border. The road passes near Khafji, where the driver can stop for rest or prayer. At about 8 hours this is a long drive; we include rest and meal stops, and families can split it with an overnight stop on the way.

From Dammam, services are spread out on the road to Kuwait City, so the driver fuels up before leaving and carries water. Heading to Bahrain instead? See Dammam to Bahrain over the King Fahd Causeway.
