Getting to hospital appointments: taxis for patients and families

A hospital taxi in Saudi Arabia costs from SAR 60 for a city ride of about 10 km in an economy sedan, or SAR 150 in a wheelchair-accessible van with a rear ramp. If you want the driver to wait during the appointment, book by the hour from SAR 80, with a 3-hour minimum.

Booking a hospital taxi

A hospital taxi in Saudi Arabia, booked with us, is a pre-booked ride to and from an appointment, a scan or a visit to a relative. The fare is fixed before the ride, the driver arrives at a set time, and you know the driver's name and plate in advance.

We are a taxi service, not an ambulance or a medical transport service, and our drivers do not give medical care. In an emergency, call the emergency services, not a taxi. For a patient who must lie down during the journey, ask the hospital about ambulance transport.

One-way rides or a driver who waits?

On a one-way booking, the driver drops you at the entrance and leaves; free waiting at a city pickup is 15 minutes. Appointments can run late, so you can either book the return as a separate ride or keep the driver by the hour. With an hourly booking, the driver waits for the whole appointment and takes you home when you are ready.

Wheelchair-accessible vans

Our wheelchair-accessible vans are converted Toyota Hiace vans with a rear ramp and tie-downs, so a wheelchair user rides seated in their own chair. Up to 4 companions travel in the same van. Tell us whether the chair folds or is powered when you book, so we send the right vehicle.

Book these vans ahead so we can hold one for your time. Our post on wheelchair-accessible taxis in Saudi Arabia covers airport and intercity trips in more detail.

Travelling to another city for treatment

Patients and families sometimes travel from a smaller town to a hospital in a larger city. Intercity fares are fixed per car, with rest and prayer stops included on long routes, and the driver drops you at the entrance you name.

Flying in for an appointment

If you fly in, the driver meets you at the arrivals exit with a name board. We track the flight, and the driver waits free for 60 minutes after landing. Ask your airline for wheelchair help inside the airport; our driver meets you once you come out. A wheelchair-accessible van from Jeddah Airport to the city costs from SAR 150, and from Riyadh Airport to the city from SAR 150.

We also run the trip in the other direction, from the hospital or your hotel to the airport. Send the flight time and we plan the pickup with enough time for check-in.

Early appointments, night rides and female drivers

Dispatch runs 24/7, so early-morning appointments and late visits are covered. Rides between 00:00 and 05:00 carry a 20% night surcharge, which is shown in the quote.

Women who prefer a female driver can book one in Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam, at least 12 hours ahead. A family member can ride along in the same car.

Tips for a smooth hospital trip

  • Give us the hospital name and the building, clinic or entrance. Large hospital sites can have several entrances.
  • Tell us the appointment time, and we set the pickup with time to spare for traffic and registration.
  • Book the return as a time window, or keep the driver by the hour.
  • Say if you need the ramp, a child seat or room for crutches or a folding walker.
  • Share your live location with the driver when you are ready; our post on sharing your location shows how.
  • Save the driver's WhatsApp number so you can message if the appointment runs late.

Booking for a parent or relative

You can book for someone else, even from abroad. Send the passenger's name, phone number, pickup address and appointment time on WhatsApp, and pay by bank transfer or the STC Bank app before the ride, or let the passenger pay in the car. We send the driver's name and plate the day before. Message us or call +966 57 951 9804.

Questions readers ask

Can the driver help a patient inside the hospital?

No. Our drivers are taxi drivers, not medical staff. Bring a companion for help inside the hospital, or ask at the hospital's reception.

Do you carry stretchers?

No. Our vehicles carry seated passengers and wheelchair users only. For a patient who needs to lie down, ask the hospital about ambulance transport.

Can I book regular rides for a course of appointments?

Yes. Send the dates and times and we book each ride at a fixed fare. If you need the same driver each time, ask, and we arrange it where we can.

What if the appointment is cancelled at short notice?

Cancellation is free up to 24 hours before pickup. If the hospital moves your appointment, message us and we change the time; changes are free whenever possible.

Can hospitals and clinics book rides for patients?

Yes. Hospitals and medical teams can open a corporate account with monthly invoicing, and book patient transfers, hospital-to-airport runs and staff shift pickups on it.
