How much Umrah transport costs: a budget by trip type

A typical Umrah through Jeddah Airport, Makkah and Madinah, with a Ziyarat morning in each city, adds up to SAR 1,490 in an economy sedan or SAR 2,790 in a family van for up to 11 people, before any package discount. Fares are fixed per car, so the Umrah transport cost per person falls as more of you share the vehicle.

How much does Umrah transport cost?

This guide adds up the Umrah transport cost for the most common trip shapes, using our fixed fares, so you can budget before you book. Fares are per car, not per person, and include fuel, tolls, the driver and meet-and-greet at the airport.

The totals below are the sum of single fares, before any package or return discount, which we confirm in your quote. Hotel, visa and flight costs are not included; compare those directly with the providers.

Taking the Jeddah-in, Madinah-out trip as the example, here is the total split evenly across the group. Children count as passengers for seats but add nothing to the price, because the fare is per vehicle.

Extras to budget for

  • Masjid Aisha for a second Umrah: from SAR 60 per car each way.
  • A Taif day trip from Makkah: SAR 160 each way by economy sedan, or SAR 800 for a full 10-hour day with the driver waiting.
  • Badr from Madinah: SAR 260 each way, about 1 h 30 min on the road.
  • Daily Haram runs from a hotel in Aziziyah or Kudai: from SAR 60 per ride, unless your hotel runs a shuttle.
  • A night arrival: Jeddah Airport to Makkah with a pickup between 00:00 and 05:00 costs about SAR 220 instead of SAR 180.
  • Extra hours if a Ziyarat or day trip runs longer than booked, at your vehicle's hourly rate.

What can change the price, and what does not?

  • It changes: a pickup between 00:00 and 05:00 adds the 20% night surcharge, shown in your quote.
  • It changes: a larger vehicle, extra stops or extra hours on an hourly booking.
  • It does not change: demand. There is no surge pricing in Ramadan, school holidays or after Hajj.
  • It does not change: flight delays. We track your flight and wait free for 60 minutes after landing.
  • It does not change: luggage or passenger count within the vehicle's limits, or the Miqat stop.

Ways to keep Umrah transport costs down

  • For 5 to 11 people, one family van usually costs less than two sedans; our post on a family van against two sedans works through the numbers.
  • Book the main legs together as an Umrah transport package and ask for the package and return price.
  • Avoid pickups between 00:00 and 05:00 when your flight times allow it.
  • Use your hotel's shuttle for daily Haram trips if it runs at the times you need.
  • Book by the hour only when you have three or more stops; for a single trip, a fixed fare is cheaper.
  • Solo travellers with light bags can compare the Haramain train; check ticket prices with the operator, and add a taxi at each end.

Questions readers ask

Do your fares go up in Ramadan or after Hajj?

No. Fares are fixed and agreed before the ride, with no surge pricing. In peak weeks the risk is that vehicles sell out, so book as soon as your flights are fixed.

Do I pay a deposit?

No. Pay the driver in cash (SAR) or by card in the car, or pay before the ride by bank transfer or the STC Bank app (formerly STC Pay).

Is the Miqat stop extra?

No. Rest, prayer and Miqat stops are included in the fixed fare on long routes.

Can I pay in my own currency?

Fares are quoted and paid in Saudi riyals. You can pay by card, but a card issued abroad may carry foreign transaction fees from your bank, so check before you travel.

Is a bus or train cheaper than a taxi?

For one person with light luggage, usually yes; check prices with the operator, as they change. For families, compare the totals: one fare per car against a ticket for each person plus a taxi at each end.
