Jazan airport taxi: short rides and a ferry connection

A Jazan airport taxi is one of the shortest airport rides in the Kingdom. King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Airport (GIZ) has a single terminal close to Jazan city and to Jazan Port, where the ferry leaves for the Farasan Islands.

From the airport you can also head inland to the farming towns of the Jazan region, or up the escarpment to Abha. Your driver waits at the arrivals exit with a name board and tracks your flight.

How do you get to the Farasan Islands?

The Farasan Islands are a protected group of Red Sea islands with beaches, coral and old coral-stone houses. They are reached by a free government ferry from Jazan Port, and our taxi takes you to the port. October to April is the best time to go.

  • Check the ferry schedule and book your place before you travel; schedules can change.
  • Book your taxi from the airport or your hotel to Jazan Port, and tell us your sailing time.
  • Arrive at the port with time to spare before the sailing.
  • Carry your passport or Iqama, as you would anywhere in the Kingdom.
  • If you need a car on the island, ask us when you book; island taxis are arranged on request.
  • For the return, tell us the sailing you plan to take back, and message us if it changes.

Up to Abha and the mountains

Abha is 200 km, about 2 h 25 min from Jazan Airport. The road climbs the escarpment through the Dhila pass, and drivers take it steady. Rijal Alma, with its heritage village of colourful stone tower houses, is 190 km from the airport.

If you plan to fly out of Abha instead, our Abha airport guide covers the meeting point and the mountain roads from there.

Around the Jazan region

  • Sabya: the second city of the Jazan region, 38 km from the airport.
  • Abu Arish: one of the largest towns in the region, east of Jazan city, 33 km from the airport.
  • Samtah: south of Jazan city near the Yemen border, 64 km from the airport.
  • Ad Darb: the northern gateway town of the region on Route 5, 121 km from the airport.
  • Hourly driver: from SAR 80 per hour with a 3-hour minimum, for a day with several stops.

Flying out of Jazan

Check your airline's check-in cut-off and work back. If you are returning from Farasan on the day you fly, plan a wide margin: ferry times can change, and you need to reach the airport before check-in closes. The drive from the port to the airport itself is short, about 20 min. Book the pickup by the day before so you have the driver's name and plate.
