What a fixed taxi fare includes: tolls, waiting, luggage and stops

A fixed fare taxi with us includes the car, the driver, fuel and any tolls, meet-and-greet at airports, 60 minutes of free waiting after your flight lands, luggage that fits the vehicle, and rest, prayer and Miqat stops on long routes. The price, such as SAR 170 from Jeddah to Makkah in an economy sedan, is agreed before the ride and changes only if you change the booking.

What does a fixed fare taxi mean?

A fixed fare taxi is a ride with the price agreed before you set off. You send the pickup, drop-off, time, passengers and luggage on WhatsApp, we reply with one price for the car, and that is what you pay. There is no meter running and no surge pricing at busy times.

The price is per vehicle, not per person. The one addition that depends on the time is the 20% night surcharge for rides between 00:00 and 05:00, and it is already in your quote, so nothing is added in the car.

What is included in every fare?

  • The vehicle class you booked, air-conditioned, with a driver licensed by the Transport General Authority.
  • Fuel and any road tolls on the route.
  • Meet-and-greet at airports: the driver waits with a name board and helps with your bags.
  • Flight tracking and 60 minutes of free waiting after landing; 15 minutes at other pickups.
  • Luggage up to the vehicle's capacity.
  • Rest, prayer, meal and Miqat stops on intercity trips.
  • Drop-off at your hotel door, or at the nearest open drop point when roads near the Haram are closed.
  • The driver's name and plate number, sent the day before.
  • Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup.

How long does the driver wait for free?

At airports, the free waiting is 60 minutes and it starts when your flight actually lands, not at the time on your ticket. We track the flight, so a delay costs you nothing. Immigration and baggage can take a while when several flights land together, which is why the wait counts from landing.

At a hotel, home or office, the driver waits 15 minutes free from the booked pickup time. If you know you will need longer, for example while a large family checks out of a hotel, say so when you book so it is planned into the quote. If you are running late on the day, message the driver or us on WhatsApp straight away.

How much luggage is included?

Bags that fit the vehicle are included. The limit depends on the vehicle, so count suitcases as well as people.

Standard Sedan1–33
Comfort MPV4–65

Are child seats and large items extra?

Yes, they are small extras, listed on each route's fare guide, for example the Jeddah to Makkah fare guide. Ask for them when you book so the driver brings the right seat and leaves room for the item.

If you have a lot of bags, a bigger vehicle is often better value than paying for extras. A cargo van can carry excess luggage separately from the passengers.

Are stops on the way included?

Yes, on intercity trips. Rest, prayer and meal stops are part of the fare, and pilgrims can stop at the Miqat to enter Ihram. On a long drive such as Makkah to Madinah, about 4 h 30 min, ask the driver whenever you need a break.

A stop that changes the route is different. A second drop-off, a visit to a Ziyarat site or a detour to another town adds distance, so tell us when you book and we include it in the quote. Our guide to Miqat stops by car explains which Miqat you pass on each road.

What can change the price?

Only changes you make, or the time of day you choose:

  • A ride between 00:00 and 05:00, which adds 20%.
  • A larger vehicle, for example a family van instead of a sedan.
  • An extra drop-off, stop or detour that adds distance.
  • Child seats and extra-large luggage.
  • Extra hours on an hourly booking, charged at the vehicle's hourly rate.

Fixed fare, meter or app: what to check

Traffic, a delayed flight, a busy season or the price of fuel on the day do not change an agreed fixed fare. If something you change affects the price, we confirm the new fare with you before the ride.

With a meter taxi, the price depends on distance, time and waiting, and you see it at the end of the ride. With a ride-hailing app such as Uber or Careem, you see a price before you confirm, and it moves with demand. Both work well for many trips. When you compare, check the same things each time: the vehicle size, the luggage, the waiting time and the night rate. Our Jeddah to Makkah taxi price guide compares the three on one route.

Questions readers ask

Is a tip included?

Tipping is optional. The fixed fare already covers the driver, so there is nothing extra to pay unless you want to.

Does the fare include waiting while I pray at the Haram?

No. A one-way fare includes 15 minutes of free waiting at pickup. If you want the driver to wait while you pray or visit, book by the hour, from SAR 80 per hour with a 3-hour minimum.

Is the fare the same if fewer people travel?

Yes. The fare is per car, so it does not go down if someone drops out, or up if someone joins, as long as everyone and their bags fit.

Can I add a stop on the day?

Tell the driver and message us on WhatsApp. A short prayer or rest stop is included. If the stop adds distance, we confirm any change to the fare with you first.

Do I pay anything when I book?

No. There is no deposit. Pay in the car in cash or by card, or before the ride by bank transfer or the STC Bank app.
