What is Ushaiqer heritage village?
Ushaiqer heritage village is a restored mud-brick village north-west of Riyadh, with old mosques and farms. Most visitors spend about 2 h walking through it.
It lies about 20 km from Shaqra, a historic town north-west of Riyadh, and about 200 km from Riyadh itself. That distance is why it is a day trip rather than an afternoon out.
How do you get to Ushaiqer from Riyadh?
By car is the simplest way. The trip is about 200 km each way, and the driver stops for rest or prayer whenever you ask.
If you are landing in Riyadh, you can go straight there: Riyadh Airport (RUH) to Shaqra is 201 km, about 2 h 15 min, from SAR 350 one way. For getting around the capital itself, see getting around Riyadh.
Why not book a one-way drop and a separate pickup? A one-way ride of about 200 km costs from SAR 340, so two one-way fares come to SAR 680, against SAR 720 for the same car waiting all day. A separate pickup also means a second car driving out from Riyadh to find you, so for a village this far out, keeping one driver is simpler.
What does the day trip cost?
We price a return trip with the driver waiting on the hours the day takes, and never less than two one-way fares. For Ushaiqer that is about 9 hours. Fares are per car, fixed before the day, and include fuel and the driver.
Shared by a full family van of 11, the trip comes to about SAR 123 per person.
| Vehicle | Passengers | Return, driver waits |
|---|---|---|
| Economy sedan | Up to 3 | SAR 720 |
| Standard sedan | Up to 3 | SAR 855 |
| SUV | Up to 7 | SAR 1,620 |
| Family van | Up to 11 | SAR 1,350 |
A sample day
Check opening hours before you go, especially if you plan to visit on a Friday.
- The day before: check the village's opening hours and the weather, and confirm the pickup time with us.
- Morning: leave Riyadh early, while it is cooler.
- Late morning: arrive at Ushaiqer and spend about 2 h among the mud-brick houses, mosques and farms.
- Midday: stop in Shaqra, about 20 km away, for lunch or a break.
- Afternoon: drive back to Riyadh, arriving in the late afternoon or early evening.
When is the best time to visit Ushaiqer?
October to April. Summer afternoons around Riyadh are very hot, and the village is explored on foot.
In winter, mornings can be cool, so bring a layer, and start early so most of the drive back is in daylight.
What should you bring?
- Water for everyone.
- A hat and sunscreen.
- Comfortable shoes for walking.
- Modest clothing; the village has mosques.
- A warm layer for winter mornings.
- A charged phone with the driver's number saved.
Travelling as a family or group
Fares are per car, so a bigger group pays less each. A family van seats up to 11 with room for bags, and a group bus or coaster seats 12 to 50 for school, community or company trips.
Child seats and wheelchair-accessible vans are available on request. Tell us the number of people, their ages and any mobility needs when you book, so the right vehicle arrives.
Ushaiqer, Diriyah or the Edge of the World?
If you have one free day near Riyadh, compare the options. At-Turaif in Diriyah is the UNESCO-listed mud-brick district and only 20 km from central Riyadh, so it fits into an afternoon and evening; see Diriyah and Bujairi Terrace. Ushaiqer is a restored village with farms and needs the whole day.
The Edge of the World is a separate day trip by SUV to the cliffs of the Tuwaiq escarpment. If you only have one day in the city itself, our Riyadh in one day plan is the better choice.
