Is Al Wajh Domestic Airport the same as Red Sea International Airport?

No. Al Wajh Domestic Airport (EJH) is a separate airport about 5 km from Al Wajh town, while Red Sea International Airport has the code RSI. Check the airport code on your ticket and send it to us, so the driver goes to the right one.

Can you drive us right into the resort?

Resort gate rules vary. Some resorts accept guest cars at the gate and others meet guests at a set pickup point. Send us the resort's instructions or booking reference and we follow them.

Can I book the return to the airport at the same time?

Yes. Tell us your flight time and pickup point and we plan the pickup with enough time for the drive and check-in. Return trips are discounted when you book both legs together.

Can a woman travelling alone book a female driver on the Red Sea coast?

Female-driver vehicles are available in Jeddah, Makkah, Madinah, Riyadh and Dammam, not on the Red Sea coast. All our drivers are licensed by the Transport General Authority, and you receive the driver's name and plate before pickup.

Do your drivers speak English?

Drivers speak Arabic, and most also speak English or Urdu; many speak Hindi and Bengali too. Tell us your language when you book and we match the driver.

Red Sea Project resorts: transfers from Red Sea International Airport

A Red Sea airport transfer from Red Sea International Airport (RSI) to Al Wajh takes about 25 min and costs from SAR 60 per car, and the drive to Umluj takes about 2 h 50 min from SAR 220. Island resorts may run their own boat or seaplane transfers, so check with your resort before you book a car.

What is Red Sea International Airport?

Red Sea International Airport (RSI) opened in 2023 to serve the Red Sea Project resorts on the coast of Tabuk Province. A Red Sea airport transfer is the drive from the terminal to your resort's pickup point, to the towns of Al Wajh or Umluj, or on to another city. This guide explains who handles each leg, what the drive costs with us and how to book it.

The airport has a single terminal and sits between the towns of Al Wajh and Umluj. Resort check-in desks are inside the terminal. Our driver waits at the arrivals exit with a name board, tracks your flight and waits free for 60 minutes after landing.

Does your resort include the airport transfer?

Check this first. Resorts in the Red Sea destination may arrange transfers for their own guests, and island resorts are reached by boat or seaplane that the resort runs or books. Your booking confirmation or the resort's guest team will tell you what is included, where the boat or seaplane leaves from and at what time.

A car with us makes sense in these cases:

Your resort asks you to reach a coastal pickup point or jetty by road.
You are staying in Al Wajh or Umluj rather than at a resort.
You are going on to AlUla, Yanbu, Madinah or Jeddah after your stay.
You need a larger vehicle for a family, a group or dive bags.

How far is it from the airport to Al Wajh, Umluj and Yanbu?

These are our fixed fares from RSI, per car, for the most requested drives. Fares include fuel, tolls, the driver and meet-and-greet. Between 00:00 and 05:00 a 20% night surcharge applies and is shown in your quote.

Getting to Umluj for island boat trips

Umluj is the boat-tour base for the Red Sea islands. The Umluj Islands, often called the Maldives of Saudi Arabia, are reached by boat, and the boat-tour operators are at Umluj marina. We drop you at the marina for your tour. Book the boat in advance if you go at a weekend.

If your flight lands at Yanbu Airport (YNB) instead, Umluj is about 1 h 50 min north on Route 5, from SAR 250 per car. From Al Wajh, the coast road to Umluj is 160 km, about 1 h 40 min.

Al Wajh: the nearest town to the airport

Al Wajh is the gateway town for the Red Sea Project resorts and the closest town to RSI, about 25 km away. It has an old town and is a practical base if you arrive the night before a resort check-in or an early boat departure.

Staff and contractors often come by road from Tabuk. That drive is 330 km on the coastal road via Duba, about 3 h 30 min, from SAR 570 per car, and it passes Red Sea Project site offices along the way.

Going on to AlUla, Madinah or Makkah

Many visitors pair the Red Sea coast with AlUla. The drive from RSI to AlUla takes about 5 h 15 min and costs from SAR 380 per car, or SAR 780 in an SUV. Resorts in AlUla's Ashar Valley need a gate booking reference for vehicle entry, so send it to us with your booking.

Umluj to Madinah is 386 km, about 4 h 55 min, with rest and prayer stops included. If you continue to Makkah for Umrah, the route passes Rabigh, near the Miqat of Al-Juhfa, and the driver stops for Ihram on request. Our guide to the Miqat stop by car explains how it works.

Which vehicle should you book?

Tell us about dive bags or other bulky kit when you book, so we send a vehicle with room for it.

Economy sedan: up to 3 passengers and 2 suitcases, from SAR 60 to Al Wajh.
SUV (GMC Yukon class): up to 7 passengers and 6 suitcases, the usual choice for long desert highways.
Family van: up to 11 passengers and 10 suitcases, for families and dive groups with kit.
Luxury / VIP: Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Lexus LX 600 or Cadillac Escalade with a suited chauffeur.
