What do we know about Expo 2030 Riyadh?

Riyadh was chosen in November 2023 to host World Expo 2030, which is planned to run from October 2030 to March 2031. Good Expo 2030 transport plans start with the official information: the site, opening hours, ticketing and public transport links will be published by the organisers, so follow the official Expo 2030 Riyadh channels for those details.

This guide covers what you can plan now: flights into Riyadh, airport transfers, getting around the city, and transport for groups, delegations and pavilion teams.

Why plan Expo transport early?

  • The Expo runs for about six months, and large international events raise demand for hotels, flights and cars in the host city.
  • Riyadh Season usually runs from about October to March, so the two may overlap; check both programmes when you choose dates.
  • Delegations, pavilion staff and corporate groups need contracts, invoicing and vehicle plans agreed before they arrive.
  • Early notice lets us hold the group buses and luxury cars you need.

Arriving at King Khalid International Airport

King Khalid International Airport (RUH) is about 35 km north of Olaya, roughly 40 min by car, and peak traffic on King Fahd Road can add 20 minutes. Terminals 1 and 2 handle international flights. The driver waits in the arrivals hall after baggage claim and sends a live pin on WhatsApp; we track the flight, and the driver waits free for 60 minutes after landing.

Getting around Riyadh during the Expo

You will have several options: the Riyadh Metro, ride-hailing apps, pre-booked taxis and hourly drivers. The metro serves the airport and suits travellers with light bags whose hotel is near a station; check the operator for routes and fares, and see our Riyadh Metro guide and getting around Riyadh.

A pre-booked car suits families, people with luggage and anyone visiting the Expo and other places on the same day. For one visit, book a one-way ride and a fixed return time. For a day with several stops, an hourly driver waits at each one. At the Expo itself, drivers will use the drop-off points the organisers set.

Groups, delegations and pavilion teams

Corporate and group accounts can be arranged well before the Expo opens. A corporate account gives you monthly invoicing with VAT, a dedicated dispatcher, trip reports per cost centre and priority vehicles in peak season.

  • Pavilion staff: fixed-route daily shuttles with the same driver and vehicle, priced per month.
  • Delegations: convoy-ready vehicles, vetted drivers and a single point of contact.
  • Speakers and VIPs: Luxury / VIP cars with a suited chauffeur, booked by the hour.
  • Visitor groups: coaches from 22 to 50 seats with a luggage hold, plus airport meet-and-greet.

Day trips from Riyadh for Expo visitors

At-Turaif in Diriyah is the UNESCO-listed mud-brick district of the first Saudi state, and visits may need timed tickets. The Edge of the World, about 100 km north-west of the city, is best from October to April, which matches the Expo months; the last stretch is an unpaved track, so we send an SUV.
