Going straight from the plane to Diriyah: what to plan
Coming straight from a flight, a little planning saves time on the ground.
- Send the name of your Diriyah hotel, or say if you are going to At-Turaif or Bujairi Terrace, so the driver heads for the right drop-off.
- Drop your bags at the hotel first. At-Turaif is visited on foot, and it is easier without suitcases.
- Visits to At-Turaif may need timed tickets, and hours change for events and seasons. Check the official Diriyah website and book your ride around your ticket time.
- October to April is the best season for walking. In summer, plan your visit for after dark.
- If you are staying in central Riyadh, go to your hotel first and visit Diriyah later. The ride from central Riyadh costs from SAR 60.
Is there a metro or app option from the airport to Diriyah?
The Riyadh Metro serves the airport, but whether it gets you close to your Diriyah hotel depends on where the hotel is. Check the operator's official map, hours and fares before you rely on it. Our comparison of taxi and metro from Riyadh Airport sets out the trade-offs.
Ride-hailing apps such as Uber and Careem also work at the airport, with prices that change with demand. With luggage, a family or a late landing, a pre-booked car to the hotel door is the simplest option.
Arriving on an event night
Diriyah gets busy on big nights. Event dates change each year, so check the official websites before you plan. If your flight lands on one of these evenings, allow extra time and keep WhatsApp on so the driver can agree the nearest drop-off with you.
- The Formula E Diriyah E-Prix, usually early in the year, races at night on a street circuit in Diriyah. Traffic builds before the race.
- Founding Day, on 22 February, brings heritage events, many of them in the evening, and Diriyah is busy.
- Riyadh Season, usually October to March, adds evening traffic across the city.
Keeping a driver for the evening
Evening traffic to and from Bujairi Terrace is heavy, and many people leave at the same time. If you arrive in the afternoon and want to see At-Turaif and stay for dinner, book a driver by the hour from SAR 80 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum. The driver waits at each stop and is ready when you are.
You can book the airport transfer and the hourly driver together on WhatsApp. Tell us when you want the hourly booking to start.
