When is check-in at Makkah and Madinah hotels?
There is no single Makkah hotel check-in time. Each hotel sets its own check-in and check-out times, and they can differ by room type, season and booking channel. Many hotels in Makkah and Madinah check guests in during the afternoon and expect them to check out around midday, but the only reliable source is your booking confirmation or the hotel itself.
The gap matters because flights rarely line up with it. A night flight can bring you to the hotel hours before your room is ready, and an evening departure can leave you with several hours between check-out and the drive to the airport.
How does your arrival time fit with check-in?
From Jeddah Airport, allow about 1 h 25 min for the drive to a Makkah hotel, plus time for immigration and bags; from Madinah Airport, the drive to a central hotel is about 25 min. Early check-in, late check-out and luggage storage are decided by the hotel, may depend on availability and may carry a charge, so ask the hotel in writing before you travel.

Arriving before check-in: step by step
If you land in Ihram and your Umrah slot is soon after arrival, going to the hotel first still helps: you leave the luggage and walk or take a short taxi to the Haram. Our Umrah step by step guide shows how long the rites can take.
- Send us your flight number, hotel name and the check-in time on your booking.
- Before you fly, ask the hotel whether it can hold bags for guests who arrive early, and whether early check-in is possible.
- On arrival, the driver unloads your bags at the hotel's drop point and helps with them there.
- Leave the bags with the hotel, keeping passports, medicines, chargers and Ihram items with you.
- Rest in the lobby, eat, or walk to the Haram, depending on your Nusuk slot.
- Check in when the room is ready.
Check-out day: filling the gap before a late flight
If your flight leaves in the evening or at night, you may have several hours between check-out and leaving for the airport. Common options are a late check-out, leaving bags with the hotel and spending the time at the Haram, or a day room. Ask your hotel what it offers and at what price.
Another option is an hourly driver, from SAR 80 per hour with a 3-hour minimum. Your bags stay in the vehicle while the driver waits, so you can visit a Ziyarat site or go shopping and then go straight to the airport. Tell us the flight time and we add the airport drop to the same booking.
Moving from Makkah to Madinah on the same day
Many pilgrims check out in Makkah and check in in Madinah on the same day. The Makkah to Madinah taxi takes about 4 h 30 min with a rest stop, so leaving soon after a midday check-out usually brings you to Madinah later in the day, after many hotels have started checking guests in.
Book the pickup away from a prayer time, when roads near the Haram are open, and agree the pickup point the night before. In Madinah, central hotels have controlled vehicle access, so the driver drops you at your hotel's assigned entrance. Going the other way, from Madinah to Makkah, add 30 to 45 minutes for the Ihram stop at Dhul Hulayfah.
Departure day: when should you leave the hotel?
Work back from your airline's check-in deadline, then add the drive and a margin. On the Jeddah to Makkah road, Thursday and Friday evenings can add 20 to 30 minutes. Our guide to the departure day covers the airport side.

What to keep with you when the hotel holds your bags
- Passports, visas and printed or saved flight details.
- Your phone, a charger and a power bank, with the Nusuk app ready.
- Medicines and prescriptions.
- Ihram clothing if you are arriving, or a change of clothes if you are leaving.
- Cash, cards and any valuables.
- A note of the hotel's luggage ticket number; label every bag with your name and phone number.
