Jeddah Corniche: the best stretches and getting around

The Jeddah Corniche is a long Red Sea seafront about 10 km from the city centre, and the best stretches for a first visit are Al Rahma Mosque at sunset and the promenade facing King Fahd's Fountain after dark. Because it runs for many kilometres, choose your drop-off point first: a one-way ride costs from SAR 60 per car, or SAR 240 with the driver waiting about 3 hours.

What is the Jeddah Corniche?

The Jeddah Corniche is the city's long seafront on the Red Sea, with promenades, beaches, parks and sculptures. It is about 10 km from the city centre, and most visitors spend about 2 h there, usually in the evening.

The Corniche runs for many kilometres, so "take me to the Corniche" is not enough for a driver. Decide which stretch you want first. That choice sets your drop-off point, how far you walk and whether you need the car again between stops.

Which stretches of the Corniche are worth your time?

For a first visit, three stretches cover the highlights. The distances are approximate road distances from the city centre, not distances between the stops.

King Fahd's Fountain is one of the tallest fountains in the world and jets high above the sea; it is lit at night. Al Rahma Mosque, often called the Floating Mosque, stands on stilts over the water and is popular at sunset. Along the rest of the seafront, the promenades, parks and sculptures make an easy evening walk.

When is the best time to visit the Corniche?

Evenings, all year round. Sunset suits Al Rahma Mosque, and the fountain is at its best after dark. In the hot months, keep your walk for after sunset, when it is cooler.

Weekend evenings are busy, so book your return in advance. Two dates bring heavier crowds and traffic: Saudi National Day on 23 September, when the Corniche is crowded in the evening, and the Formula 1 race weekend, when roads near the Corniche close on race days. Check the official calendar for the race date.

How do you get around the Corniche?

Pick the option that matches how many stretches you want to see.

  • One stretch: book a drop-off from SAR 60 and a return at a set time from the same point. At city pickups the driver waits 15 minutes free.
  • Two or three stretches: keep a driver by the hour from SAR 80 per hour, with a 3-hour minimum. The driver moves the car while you walk and meets you at the next stop.
  • A long walk: be dropped at one point and picked up further along. Share your live location on WhatsApp so the driver can find you.
  • Single rides: ride-hailing apps work for one-off trips along the seafront. A pre-booked car is simpler if you need a van, a child seat or a set return time.

A sample evening on the Corniche

  • Before sunset: pickup from your hotel. Business travellers in Jeddah mostly stay along Prince Sultan Road, Tahlia Street and the Corniche itself, so the first drive is often short.
  • Sunset: Al Rahma Mosque, about 30 min. The Maghrib prayer starts at sunset and visitors are welcome outside prayer times, so arrive a little early or wait until the prayer ends.
  • Early evening: walk a stretch of promenade, parks and sculptures.
  • After dark: the promenade facing King Fahd's Fountain, about 45 min, while it is lit.
  • Dinner, then back to your hotel. Plan on 3 to 4 hours in total: SAR 240 for 3 hours or SAR 320 for 4 hours in an economy sedan.

What does it cost to get around the Corniche?

All fares are per car, fixed before the ride and include fuel.

Flying in? Jeddah Airport is 20 km from the city, about 25 min, from SAR 60. Rides between 00:00–05:00 carry a 20% night surcharge, shown in the quote.

Tips for families and groups

  • Name a landmark for pickup, such as the mosque or the fountain viewpoint, rather than just "the Corniche".
  • A family van seats up to 11 with room for bags.
  • Child seats and wheelchair-accessible vans are available on request.
  • Female-driver vehicles are available in Jeddah; book about 12 hours ahead.
  • Add the old town: spend the late afternoon in Al-Balad and come to the seafront after dark.
  • For buses, apps and other options, see getting around Jeddah.
